College of Professional Pilots of Canada

We are a non-profit, non-labour organization with the aim of unifying Canada’s professional pilots based on the common grounds of safety, professional standards, and continuous improvement.

For current professional pilots it could mean better prepared and trained flight crew. It would mean a professional designation. It would mean having a self governing body with disciplinary actions that would be taken in-house by a panel of peers, instead of a courthouse where discipline has been shown to be ineffective and inappropriate. It would reduce liability and better protect pilots and the public.

Other less tangible benefits are those of stewardship: leaving the industry in an improved state than you yourself had. We have all told stories of times where we experienced events that could have been better, possibly leading to unsafe or unfair conditions. It’s about getting back control of the vocation that you love and invested so much energy into. It’s about having a say on where it will move next and how our lives and families’ lives will benefit.

Insurance – Home and Auto

Thanks to the agreement between TD Insurance and the College of Professional Pilots of Canada, you can benefit from special privileges, such as preferred group rates, enhanced coverage, and flexible limits. For more info, click here. TD verifies membership with CPPC in the process.

Our members report being able to access a better rate year over year compared to using an alternate group affinity identification with TD.

Planning a move? Home Insurance isn’t one-size-fits-all. Get a personalized home assessment to determine your coverage needs in minutes from affinity program partner TD Insurance: https://go.td.com/2o0eYLs

Insurance – Loss of License

Offered by CSU Specialty Risk through the Lloyds market, loss of license insurance is a critical tool to protect yourself and your family. Not many products of this nature exist to serve Canadian pilots, and most are prohibitively expensive. CSU offers a new solution which may suit our members.

Subject to underwriting, membership of CPPC is a requisite.

Mentorship Program

Mentoring of junior pilots is a core value to the College of Pilots because it is a powerful tool for preventing junior pilots from learning things in aviation the hard way. Many of us have stumbled through flight training and the first few years of trying to get a job. If you were lucky enough to get a job right away, you may have had a poor understanding of how this industry operates and made some mistakes along the way, not understanding some of the challenges and expectations this industry has.

As pilots, we get paid to make sound decisions, and having good information to draw on is vitally important. Having someone to be a mentor could help smooth out some of the bumps along the way and help an individual find the niche that he/she belongs to in this vast country and diverse industry. For those of us who knew we wanted to be pilots but had no one in the family or any friends to help us understand what we were getting into, a mentor could have saved us time, money and other instability.

Pilots at all stages of their career can volunteer to be mentors, and/or seek guidance in the mentorship program at any time.

Community & Stewardship

The College fosters community by hosting meet & greets, personal and virtual venues providing opportunities for networking, discussion, and mutual support, removed from associations with labour or industry. By doing so as a neutral third-party, the focus can remain on supporting the profession long-term, empowering the pilots that keep it alive, and leaving the profession in a better state for those following our in our footsteps.

Future Benefits

In time, as resources allow, we hope to add even more tangible insurance and group benefits such as those for health, dental, counseling.

This will benefit pilots in the earlier stages of the career the most, but can serve as a top-up for even established career pilots.

Another avenue to pursue is that of legal advice, in the form of a retained law firm to provide consults in area of contract law, training bonds, dismissal, unsafe work, discrimination, etc.
